This symbol of our church is really three symbols put together. The Crown, Cross, and Orb. The Empty Cross, symbol of the resurrected Christ, and the Crown, symbol of sovereignty, are placed together as the Cross Triumphant or the Cross Victorious. The Orb represents the world. The three parts division of the orb reflects Jesus command to his disciples "You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Another understanding is that though the Cross is triumphant or victorious it is still grounded in the world.
"To Believe Is To Care, To Care Is to Do" Although it has never been formally adopted as such, through usage this phrase has become the motto of the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Mankato.
